"How to Honor Your Period & Our Phases of Flow Candle"

Updated: Feb 29

The sacred menstruation cycle also known as "that time of the month," we feel has been deprecated and vilified with modern technology and media influences for way too long. However, with the Awakening of humanity and a rise in "New Age" Spiritualism (for a lack of a better term), women's menstruation has been uplifted to its true power and magic. In the end, it is through menstruation that women are able to birth the miracle of life and ultimately carry on the legacy of humanity.

As business women rooted in Spiritualism and healing, we wanted to assist in healing the stigma of the period with a... period candle! So we came up with our "Phases of Flow" candle to help support women during their menstruation. We chose specific essential oils (such as geranium ylang ylang, lavender, and eucalyptus) to help alleviate menstruation symptoms like headaches, cramps, and aches. You may use this candle to honor your resting period and in your self care rituals (We will get into more of HOW to use the Phases of Flow Candle below).

How to Honor Your Period

Although many of us women were not given any rites of passage for such a life changing event as menstruation, we are still able to honor our menstruation now AND share this legacy with our children. Teach your daughters and sons the sacredness of menstruation. We can be the women who say to women and girls, "Your period is an amazing thing that helps you connect to your deepest truths, to womanhood, to nature, and to Source." Let's start honoring our period and here's a few ways how.:

  1. During your heaviest flow day rest as much as possible. Take the day off if you can and honor this time to yourself. Even if you have to work or have obligations, simply slow down the pace. Take the time to tune in to yourself and ask what it is your are needing in this moment.

  2. Relax with a bath or shower ritual. Set the mood for relaxation in your bathroom. Light our Phases of Flow Candle OR any candles that you have. Use nourishing skin products for cleansing like our Coffee & Flora Salt Scrub. We have the perfect Bath Ritual Set to get you started on bath rituals and it's available at Numa'lo.

  3. Return your moon blood to the earth or your garden plants. Many plants benefit from the nutrients available in menstrual blood. You can collect your blood by using a cervix cup (this one is very comfortable) OR you can soak your menstrual pads overnight and use the water for your plants. These eco-friendly pads can be found at Numa'lo Refillery.

  4. Set intentions with our Phases of Flow Candle and Manifest. Simply light the candle during your menstruation and speak your intentions to the Universe/God/Source. While the candle is lit do manifestation practices like visualizations and meditation, scripting and journaling. This is a powerful time to let go of what no longer serves you and manifest space for new.

  5. Drink Herbal Tea's specific for menstruation. The best kind of teas out there for this sacred time is raspberry leaf tea, ginger tea, chamomile tea, peppermint tea, green tea, oolong tea, and cinnamon tea. The links to these teas are some of our favorite tea brands.

  6. Eat nourishing foods specifically for menstruation. Warm nutritious food like vegetable soup or beef broth (mmm..warm kadu!) are great to eat--it soothes and relaxes your digestive system. Other foods like dark leafy greens for iron, salmon for Omega 3, and bananas for potassium also support your body during this time. (Do avoid cold foods).

  7. Menstruation Affirmations. Speak powerful affirmations aloud or in your heart as a reminder of your Divine Feminine. We wrote this Sacred Flow Chant as a powerful affirmation for you : Let this sacred moon blood empower me during this time of rest and release. I embrace my womb in all its phases, I stand in love and ease. My mother, grandmother, and ancestors have walked this path before. I hold their wisdom in my heart I honor the sacred flow.  Here are a few other beautiful affirmations that we love: I honor my womb like the most beautiful mysterious red rose I nurture my body for she is my sacred temple I honor my sacred blood that I shed to prepare for my rebirth

  8. Use the warm wax from The Phases of Flow Candle as a healing ointment. Rub the warm wax your lower abdomen or temples on your face. The essential oils infused in the wax may aid as aromatherapy as well as sooth cramps and aches.

  9. Wear red as a homage to this sacred time. No one has to know why. You can wear a red shirt, paint your nails red, or accessorize with your favorite red shoes . You can even use red decor in your home or work space like red ginger flowers or red crystals. Plus, red crystals like garnet and carnelian are great energy sources for tuning into the body.

Beyond your bleeding years? You can still connect to the cycles of the moon and nature with your Divine Feminine. A great book to read on this is Cosmic Health by Jennifer Racioppi. Your knowledge as a woman who has come full circle with her moon blood is invaluable to younger generations--whether you were in alignment or not, your stories help build women who may have gone through similar situations.

This concludes our blog post on Period Power. We hope our perspective helped or inspired you in any way. Feel free to share with us your sacred period story. We'd love to hear it!

With gratitude, Chelsea & Cora
