Best Practices- Beeswax Candle Burning

Beeswax candles burn differently compared to all different candles (soy, coconut wax, parrafin, etc)!! Beeswax always has a different composition depending on the flowers the bees have pollinated, thus every candle will burn differently and have variations and imperfections. Wax may have cracks in between burns and burn unevenly. Beeswax will not melt like soy wax or paraffin wax candles – it will have its own way of burning, this is part of the charm of beeswax candles and we love its imperfections. If you want a candle to behave in a uniform way and be “perfect”, beeswax candles may not be for you (Batch 001).

Here are some tips for burning beeswax candles:

  1. Like with all candles, burn under careful supervision. Stay with your candle for the duration of its burn time.

  2. Keep candles away from children and pets.

  3. During the first burn do NOT trim the wick. You may trim the wick after the first burn to about 1/4 inch.

  4. Keep candles away from flammable materials or overly crowded settings.

  5. Allow the candle to achieve a full melt pool, this takes usually between 1-2 hours (meaning all wax should be melted on the surface). Beeswax candles have memory and if it doesn't achieve a full melt pool the candle with tunnel.

  6. Burn candles only in a draft-free environment away from fans, open windows, air ducts, etc. This will help to prevent any dripping or smoking

  7. Light the wick from the base of the wick, where the wick comes out of the candle, to allow the beeswax to absorb into the wick. A lighter works best

  8. Properly extinguish the candle flame, do not blow it out - this will cause splatters and smoldering wicks
